Ever wonder about the recipe for magic? Combine equal parts of vocal dynamism, charisma, and authenticity. This very rare mix led to the creation of Six Minutes ‘til Sunrise. Shawn Sounds, Tanika Keys and Ron John comprise the trio that embodies those characteristics, delivering them in musical form.
Hailing from Houston, Texas, their undeniable vocals and sonic superiority infuse contemporary lyrics with a soulful sound that crowds don’t just hear; they experience. With southern roots, a captivating catalog and performance credits that include being a favorite of the Houston Rockets, Texans and Dash, participating in The Woodlands Jazz Festival, House of Blues and countless other venues in Houston and beyond, it is clear that the Six Minutes magic is only beginning.
Vocally trained since the age of 5, Shawn Sounds croons with a sultry tone that will instantly melt your heart. Shawn grew up in Los Angeles, California and made the world his stage from the start, by singing in church. He built his chops performing throughout secondary school in Jacksonville, FL at Douglas Anderson School of the Performing Arts and Englewood High School. It was there that he joined the Ritz Voices, a local all-city youth choir. This opportunity landed him on stage, singing with the likes of Barry Manilow, John Secada, Peabo Bryson, Jody Watley and Damaris Carbaugh. With The Ritz Voices, Shawn was also able to compete in the McDonald’s Gospelfest, perform in an Ashford & Simpson Tribute Show and compete as a finalist in the NAACP ACT-So competition, held in Miami, FL where he ranked top 10 out of almost 90 contestants. He went on to continue performing while attending Stillman University on the wheels of a well deserved Vocal Performance scholarship.
Since college, Shawn’s music career has been a whirlwind of progression. 2012 found him hired as a Vocal Coach and cast member for BACE Production’s annual tribute show: Dancin’ in the Street: Motown & More Revue in Houston, TX, where he has performed for up to 45,000 people on “the hill.” During this time, he met Tanika Keys & Ron John.
Tanika Keys, the epitome of womanhood, is power and skill personified. Her musical origin comes from a rich lineage of naturally gifted vocalists, beginning with her grandfather, Archie Bell, of Houston’s Archie Bell and the Drells. She was born in Houston, TX and raised in Cypress, TX, where she attended Cy-Fair High school. A full academic scholarship led her to Jarvis Christian College, and there she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
